Club Blue ~ Monthly Equality Social
Thursday, December 3, 2009
Another Equality Weekend has come and gone, and HRC South Florida's members and supporters once again exceeded the fundraising goal for this annual event.
First, we held our monthly Club Blue at Rosie's with a record attendance level of 109 supporters in attendance. Rosie's continues to be one of HRC's most valued supporting businesses. They are extremely gracious hosts; we can't wait to plan our next event with them. See pictures>>
Our next event was a free Political Town Hall at the GLCC in Fort Lauderdale. The event featured Marty Rouse, HRC National Field Director and Joe Saunders, Equality Florida Statewide Field Director. We had approximately 100 participants on a Friday night! Marty and Joe gave us a great overview of the national and local landscape for key legislative topics: ENDA, Hate Crimes, Don't Ask Don't Tell and Adoption.See Pictures>>
On Saturday, thanks to the leadership of Antonio Seminario and Traci Allyn Shur, HRC held a brunch hosted by Broward Health at the Broward General Medical Center. 40 guests turned out for the brunch which was built around a panel of local experts on the topic of LGBT healthcare. Paul Palmer, HRC Board of Governors, Lisa Rawlins, with Broward Health and Tayna Simpson, Attorney with Manors Law Firm made up the panel while the event was moderated by HRC Diversity Co-Chair and TERI Co-Administrator, Jacqui Charvet. We closed the weekend on Sunday with the Equali-Tea Barbeque at the Pool. This event was co-hosted by the ever supportive, South Florida Blade. Everyone had fun at a recently renovated home in Wilton Manors provided by Atlantic International Properties in Wilton Manors. 14 generous volunteers stepped up to help us throw a great event for our South Florida supporters at a very low cost of fundraising which helps us maximizes the proceeds.
All funds raised from Equality Weekend go directly to HRC's fight to pass legislation this year! You can see pictures of this HRC fundraiser>>
