Florida Marriage Amendment Update

by Paul Palmer

With only 40 days remaining until the November election it is “now or never” time in the struggle to prevent Florida’s discriminatory Amendment 2 from becoming a permanent part of our state’s Constitution.

On September 21st the Orlando Sentinel became the 11th major Florida newspaper to editorialize against Amendment 2’s passage, and recently the Broward County School Board passed a resolution opposing the amendment.  Several municipalities in South Florida and elsewhere in the state appear poised to do the same.

Additionally, various polls continue to show that approximately 58% of Floridians support the amendment, meaning that support continues to fall a few points short of the 60% needed for passage.  But this shortfall is well within each poll’s margin of error.

Because Florida is such a large state, it’s broadcast media which will make the difference on whether we have a state Constitution which singles out our community for discrimination   This means that fully funding the campaign is now the key to winning.

We are extremely close to beating back this assault on our community and we encourage everyone to do everything you can so that we don’t wake up on Wednesday November 5th with the painful realization that each of us could have done just a bit more.

Please go to www.sayno2.com or www.votenoon2.com to find out how you can make a difference.  It’s not too late to ensure that our state’s Constitution continues to be a document which guarantees freedom for all Floridians.
